The San Siro neighbourhood
What it is actually like to sleep here — on a normal Tuesday and on a night when 75,000 people arrive.
Piazza Melozzo da Forlì is residential Milan: ordinary shops on the ground floors, and the traffic dies down after dinner. The 63 bus stops in front of the door, the M1 metro at Primaticcio is ten minutes on foot, the Duomo twenty-five door to door. It is not the postcard centre — in exchange, you walk home from the stadium.
Around you there is what you need and little else: a bakery, a supermarket, bars where nobody performs for tourists. The Monte Stella park is a short walk away, CityLife 2.7 km, the Portello trade fair 2.4.
On event days the neighbourhood changes for a few hours: the avenues fill with people all walking the same way, the streets nearest the stadium close, the bars put their tables out. Then the final whistle, the flow reverses, and by midnight the square is quiet again. From here you watch it from one street away: close enough to be part of it, far enough to sleep.

- From Linate airport14 km. The M4 metro leaves the terminal for the centre; a taxi takes 25–30 minutes and is the easiest option with luggage.
- From Malpensa airportMalpensa Express to Cadorna, then M1 towards Bisceglie to Primaticcio: ten minutes on foot. An hour and a half in all.
- From Milano CentraleM2 to Garibaldi, then the lilac M5 straight to San Siro Stadio. Or M2 to Cadorna and M1 to Primaticcio.
- To Rho FieraM1 from Primaticcio, change at Pagano, train to Rho Fieramilano. Thirty-five minutes.

White lines around the building: no parking disc, no residents’ permit, nothing to pay. You will almost always find a space within a block. We are outside Area C but inside Area B, Milan’s low-emission zone: if you are driving an older diesel, check the city council site before you set off.
On match days
The streets around the stadium close and the area fills up three or four hours ahead. If you arrive inside that window there is only one piece of advice: leave the car where it is and walk. It is fifteen minutes, and on the way out you queue behind nobody.

Getting to the stadium
A 1.5 km flat walk, about 15 minutes. Or metro M5, whose San Siro Stadio terminus sits right under the stands; tram 16 ends at Piazzale Axum by the gates — on event days it stops earlier, at Via Dessié.
Noise
The flat is 1.5 km from the stadium, in a residential block: you hear the roar of a goal on a still evening, and nothing else. The crowds move along the avenues towards the ground, not through this square.
